I've enjoyed the last couple of weeks because I've started another unit of Imperial Dwarfs. These guys have always been my first love ever since Wayne England did a unit in White Dwarf 135 all those years ago.

Now I know I already have 3 units of Imperials but the reason behind the fourth unit is the fact that I wanted to paint up the unlisted eye-patch drummer and seeing as there were also four different champions and four different leaders, I just had to do another unit. It was just a case of converting a bolt thrower crewman for a standard.

Here are the command figures...

The champion in the front left hand side group has been altered.

So the first 8 are finished, apart from a couple of shields that are still drying. I know most of them have already been done before and are in the Citadel Miniatures painted catalogue part of the blog but there simply aren't enough Imperial Dwarfs to go around, and the fact that they are classics...and the fact that I wanted to paint more!

Off to a flying start so far this year in terms of finishing units anyway.

Here are the Ironbreakers, the shields are the current version from plastic warriors.

Really pleased with them and glad that they are out of way now.

Time to get back to the old metal and continue the quest.

The Marauder Miners are done...

The eagle-eyed amongst you will spot a few additions to the original releases including the 'drunk' miner and Krudd from the Grudge of Drong.

I went for muted metals and darker gauntlets to show of the brighter beards and skin tones, I think it works quite well.

Ironbreaker shields coming soon...

Ironbreakers are done....apart from the shields. For those of you not familiar with my thread at Bugman's Brewery, shields are the bane of my life. I always seem to struggle with finding shields.

I do have the original Ironbreaker shields for this unit but just cannot decide on a colour scheme to fit in with the rest of the army. They are currently drowning in Dettol just in case I can't find an alternative.

 

Maybe a blue background with a bronze axe? I've tried other shields but there is so little to choose from these days, I dislike the current plastic shields, the previous edition plastic shields with the choice of three icons are too small in my opinion. I've exhausted the Hasslefree range (the good ones anyway).

If anyone has any good ideas or knows of anyone producing nice shields please post a link, please!

I've also finished 10 armoured knights from White Knight Miniature Imperium

I'll be entering them in a Unit Painting Challenge at the Brewery, closing date is 15th Jan.
Really enjoyed painting these, I hope you like them.

This could be my last post of the year and thought I'd share a wee project I did in the run up to Christmas as it was a present for the missus, Kathryn. She loves Dr Who!
I am not entirely sure how popular Doctor Who is outside of the UK but here goes anyway, hope you like it.
 
Unfortunately the 'Police Box' transfers didn't turn up in time but when they do I'll post another pic.

Meanwhile on the Dwarf front I have just finished some Ironbreakers...

As with the armoured knights I've enjoyed playing about with washes and glazes on the armour to try and liven things up a bit.

Starting to make some real progress with the Miners. This lot are almost done...

 

 

Call me lazy but I cut off the candle flames as I wasn't happy with the result. I may add some wicks later on. I figured they'd probably get blown out on a battlefield anyway!

 

Up next will be the command squad and the miner from the 'drunk dwarfs' set. I still need to think about the actual standard too.
